Pingel install...

just discovered this thread... a good read.

I was wondering why you guys didnt get the pingle vacume valve?

the new pingle taps are very nice , and there is no doubt that the stock zl taps are crap to say the least. has anyone tried a tap off of an old kz or somthing like that . If one would work it would save a butt load of cash. Just wondering.

spoke with pingle guy today and ordered a new fuel valve. I went with the vacume valve....OUCH !! not cheap

in our conversation he mentioned that the kz fuel valves were too restrictive.

Im hoping that some better flow may help my top end this year.
I also called up dyna and spoke with a rep named lary very very helpfull guy an A+ rep. I made sure that the dyna 2000 ignition module I got from prfixer would be right for my zl1k....it is ... thanks 'fixer and discussed what coils would work with my bike.

I need to know what the spacing is for the bolts on the zl coils to determine which one is right for my application. Anybody got a loose coil they could measure for me??

If I was to buy a new tap again, I would probably go with a vacuum pingel...Actually you have to mess with the manual one way more than you would have to the vacuum one...With the manual one, it is sliding from off to on (and in my case to reserve next) and then back to off...It took me a little to get used to versus the vacuum...with that one it was on untill I went to reserve...Never had to turn it off/on....For a while I kept forgetting to turn it off when I parked and a couple times I gassed up and turned it to "off" by mistake..a mile down the road and the bike sputtered and almost died...

now it is like 2nd nature...

Yep - second nature, just like putting your pants on in the morning. I'm happy with the manual petcock. Simpler is better.

The measurement is 4 1/16 inches from the center of one stud to the center of the other.

If I was to do it again, I would choose a different valve and a different adaptor...

Valve...6311-CR-K

Adaptor...A1703

This set-up lets you aim the outlet any way you want and this valve is a new design with a round knob with detents, instead of a lever...

Go there and you can see it.....Slick!!!

Didn't we decide that the 22mm adapter would put the petcock too close to the motor?

WillyD and I just both purchased Pingel's again for our bikes. I needed one for the 1000. I didn't get the valve I wanted but it will work, otherwise, I have put the a1703c adapter on the 900 and the 1000 and it seems to work fine. I don't have the 1000 tank on the bike yet but I don't see why it wouldn't work since it worked fine on the 900. Or are you referring to the different valve? Later.

yea the one with the 22mm adapter that would allow for it to be clocked in any position with out having to worry about the tightness

I am not sure about the 22mm one and having room...I would hate to buy it and get it on there only to find out it was 1/16" too long and hits...There is really no measurement that would be accurate before you buy it to know...The one I just bought for the 1K is the same as the one on my 9..With 3/8 NPT...I will teflon tape it and loctite it like the other one...it stays put....I am not sure if a vacuum pingel would fit or not...Looks like someone bought one, will wait to see the report...I am so used to flipping the valve on and off it is natural now...

I almost went with one of the 6200 series - it says they are universal so the barb can be in any position which should make it easier to set up where you want the lever and hose barb. But due to time, I just went with the same 4200 series I put on the 900 last time. I like the idea of those detents instead of the lever though.

nope, not yet. will be forth coming shortly,

I have a few things to button up first. will be wraping my exhaust and installing, need to put radiator on and fill, need to hook up the wiring for the dyna ignition mod, install original zl handlebars, bleed brakes and clutch, install carbs..... I am hoping to get this taken care of over the next two weeks..

was gona install the vacume pingle fuel valve on the 1000... maybe I should just break down and get one for both bikes...

I need to get this installed on the 1000 asap.....

1000 owners.......do you think there is room for the round HD style knob with the detents? It also would seem that the 1703 adapter and the 22mm nut would make it hang lower, is that an issue?

Just had a good look at the bike and the stock petcock. There really isn't room to grab a round knob, you also have to factor in gloves. So I ordered the 4211-CG with the A1702C adapter...I hope it gets here by wednesday!!

I fitted a PINGEL to my ZL 1000 - one of them Hexagon - non vac types - and I had to angle the valve so that it cleared the valve cover.
Not a major issue - I can get to it quite easily - even with gloves - its one with the little lever on.

Mark, I used the same adapter as you ordered, 1702C. But I used 6211 ch on the valve. no problems with reaching it.
