Ok...got it done, but tank still off bike...Gotta clean vent and drill broken mounting bolt..

First thing...

You have to open up the slot for the pingel to fit..If you put the adaptor plate on and look through the hole you can see how much has to come off..Probably 1/16" off each side...but only in the middle section..

Since I had cleaned my tank with evapo-rust, I did not have to worry about sparks..I used a dremel tool which was the slick way...worked great.. Once I was able to slip to the tap in the opening easy, I went back with a file and took off the sharp edges...Then I did a dry fit to make sure it would thread in...good to go...

Next, I pulled the screen off the stock tap and blasted the other part with carb clean, then installed it back on the tank...I put about a quart of fresh gas in the tank and swooshed it around to clean the filing dust (the dremel made very fine dust, no chunks...After I swooshed for a few minutes..I put a 5/16 hose on the tap and drained that into my used (nasty) gas can...Then I pulled the old tap off and layed the tank upside down..I cleaned all around the opening with very fine sandpaper and then wiped it with a rag with carb cleaner on it..let it dry...I cleaned the adaptor plate and let it dry...Then with the supplied sealer (blue...messy) I coated all four surfaces, tank, adaptor and both sides of the gasket (all while wiping the stuff off my hands to snap some pics...

You have to let the stuff dry for 10 min. then assemble..

NOTE!!!!!!....THIS WILL SAVE FRUSTRATION AND HEADACHE.....

Here is my suggestion....Before you mount the adaptor, mount the tap into it...put teflon tape on the threads and put it in...Wrap a rag around the adaptor and put it in a vise..Check your orientation of where the fuel nipple has to face and then thread tap into adaptor...it may be very hard to line it up exactly where you want it and since it is pipe thread you dont have tons of options for aiming it....I mounted my adaptor on the tank first and after two trys I had to unbolt the adaptor and spin it around...Had I put the tap in the adaptor first, I would have known....

After she was all in and buttoned up...I put another quart of gas in the tank and connected a hose to the tap, then drained gas through it, just to be sure nothing was gonna come out and get into my carbs...

any questions, let me know...here are some pics

I've never seen a "pingle" tap, so does it still have prime, on and reserve? or just on, off and reserve (I can see the reserve label in the photo).

I like it though, it seems pretty simple to use and it looks very neat and tidy. Well done on the neat job installing it.

It has on, off, reserve....

There is no vacuum to it like the stock ones...When you park, you have to shut it off or if your carbs stick, it is no good (gas keps flowing)...It is very well made...

cant wait to get the bike started...

Does it say anywhere in the instructions if the reserve/on tube height is adjustable?

Oh BTW Willy. I don't see the inner tube in your old tap. Is it missing? That would explain the no reserve.

When you park, you have to shut it off...It is very well made...

The needle and seat should theoretically stop the flow adequately enough, as long as they are in good working order, now you've got the choice if you aren't sure they aren't working properly enough.

It looks like good quality too, as I wrote, it looks neat and tidy, Made in the U.S.A, is it?

I've been thinking of putting an inline fuel tap on my bike, as a back up, if the vacumn diaphragm decides to act up or fail totally, but I can't find a decent chrome plated, brass one to fit a 5/16" fuel line yet, I can find plenty of the usual cr*p plastic ones, the centre turn lever eventually pull's out or leaks around it when they get worn, like the one on my Murray Lawn Tractor (ride-on mower)...

Nothing in the instructions about adjusting the reserve...

I think my tap has been screwed for a while....I had several times where I would run into reserve and then flip to it and the bike would run like crap....That is exactly what happened a couple months ago when it quit on the expressway on me...

Stormy...

With the stock tap when you are on "ON or "RESERVE" fuel will not flow untill vacuum is present at the tap...If you have a needle and seat stick and you shut the bike off, at least you will not get gas into the cylinder....With the pingel manual tap, fuel will flow whenever the bike is on or off if you have it on ON or RESERVE.....

Lets say I fill up the tank and drive home and shut it off for the night (the bike) and I forget to shut off the fuel tap...if the needle and seat fail, gas will continue to flow untill the tank is empty...so I am gonna have to get used to shutting on and off...but no more tap problems and dirt in my carbs (I hope)

I agree, looks good. Thanks a bunch for the tips/time savers/tutorial. Mine should be here in a day or two. Later.

Fresh and new always feels faster anyway! Looks cool too.

great job Willie. I have dad probs with my stock tap for a long time now. stiff tap handle, dosen't always shut off and carbs over flow. this looks like a great cure. thanks for the info. where did you get the pingle.

If I was to do it again, I would choose a different valve and a different adaptor...

Valve...6311-CR-K

Adaptor...A1703

This set-up lets you aim the outlet any way you want and this valve is a new design with a round knob with detents, instead of a lever...

Go there and you can see it.....Slick!!!

Ok, the Pingel showed up today - luckily didn't have to go after it. Pretty cool. I hate chopping into the tank but I think it's a better set up than the stock POS. Thanks to Willy for the tips - if I hadn't done the dry fit with the adapter and valve, I would've had a mess and been ****ed off as it took several tries to get the outlet and everything lined up and facing the way I wanted. I bought the Hex valve - read through the instructions as there's a good tip on not scratching the chrome by taping up your wrench before installation - never would've thought of that on my own - hahaha. All I can say is man that thing will flow some fuel. During the flush/drain, with the Pingel on, it really pours out!!!!! Keeping the carbs in check will be a must now - definitely time to find a good inline filter - although it looks like it would take a freakin' ball bearing to clog up that valve - just don't want anything getting down to the needles though.

That's the one thing I don't care for on the Pingel I got - and I guess it's the same on the round style as well - You more or less have to actually look at the valve to find and position it in the "reserve" position as there is no "stop" or detent for it. The one Willy posted would be better but I see one small problem with it - with the limited space available, location of it, you would probably scorch or burn your fingers a smidge when you tried to change postions on it - maybe not - just looks like it would be a little difficult to get to as you are riding down the road - guess you just have to be quick with it - hahaha.

I'll post up some pics when I get them cropped and get time. Thanks again Willy. Later.
