Zl900a1 carb replacement

Ok latest update, I have managed to buy a set of nearly new in the box GPZ900 carbs, just waiting for the post man. any idea what needs to be done to make them work on the old girl? or have i made a mistake??
:headbang:

Martin. I`m only in Leeds and have a heap of experience with these carbs having re-built mine a few times over the past few years. If you need any help let me know. One piece of advice, only buy OEM parts for your carbs, my experience serves to prove that the cheapie rebuild kits on ebay are a waste of money. Cradley Kawasaki <http://www.kawasakioriginalparts.com> are the best place I`ve found for parts.

Thanks AliWelder , you may wish never offered help lol, shouldn't be too much of an issue so long as they fit as I'll be getting SPR Racing to fettle them once in, they're a good bunch of old school mechanics with a dyno and they're really good at tuning

Just for4 curiosity,,,what would put on 'no expense spared'.

What size flat sides would you use?...Keep small to keep the bottom end torgue?

Would definately keep the low end torque, I don't think be worth the sacrifice to have top end power when these bikes can shame most modern kit away from the lights lol

So, I know it been a while but I've finally got the zl in to the shop to have a set of gpz900 carbs put on... First hurdle, the zl has a 2 cable set up, push and pull, the gpz carbs don't, solution, put a slightly heavier spring on to aid the return of the throttle to tickover. The upside so far is the carbs drop straight on, only mod is to use the gpz's carb to manifold rubbers rather than try and stretch the zl's over the gpz's carbs.
Next update soon..

Well he's all done and dusted , the gpz carbs are on after a lot of fighting with the air box to carb rubbers lol, the jets out of the old zl900 carbs were used and set up on the dyno so now he's pumping out 94 horse power and 50 foot pounds of torque, power delivery is nice and smooth, however it does feel that the low end grunt is down a little but nothing a few more revs won't sort out lol, still goes like stink and no more bogging down at low revs, happy days.

Cool. Did you use anything else from the zl carbs - needle, diaphragm, etc. Or was it just the main and pilot jets that you used? Thanks. Later.

Jarney,

Just used the main and pilot jets, the rest is all gpz and it runs a treat.
