Well, I just bought my first bike, an '85 eliminator. It needs a good bit of work. first thing I decided to take care of were the cables and grips, just got 'em in today. I spent about two hours, a few gallons of sweat and a few choice words getting the cables on the carbs, but finally got it done. Got it on the new throttle no problem, but now I only get about half a rotation out of the throttle before it locks up. I don't think I have my pull cable on quite right. When I was taking the old ones off the pull cable just fell out, so I really couldn't see how it was attached or routed. It looks pretty straight forward, but the cable always seems to sit on something or get bent at a very akward angle. Would anybody have a picture of how the cables are supposed to connect and route at the carb, or a diagram, manual, or a two inch Gremlin that could put them on? I'll pay good for that last one, my hands wont fit in that hole, and I'm no good with chop sticks.

Thanks in advance, and for just being around in general, this is an outstanding site.

Welcome Drivenreality!

Sounds like you have the cables mixed up. The open cable(1270) goes on the front of the switch housing and the front of the carb rack.

Paulfun taught me to completely disconnect the cables on the controls, pull the cables through the opening where the carbs attach, attach the cables on the carbs in your lap sitting next to the bike. I use tiny dental picks to get the little metal pill end of the cable in the sockets. Then pull the cables from the front as you bring the carb set to the boots. 5 minutes tops. No sweat

Actually its about 20 min to do the complete replacement of the cables on a running bike when you consider having to pull the tank and carbs to get everything right but pulling the carbs has proven easy compared to tryin to fight the cable ends into the carbs with them still in place.
