Don't know if this belongs here, but I found it extremely helpful when some of the more experienced members were advising me to open up the carburetor and check it for problems and clean it. If you don't know what one looks like, or what everything is supposed to do this is a good starting point!

I posted one a while ago that was very clear and concise, also demonstrated on a model very similar to my 600, a ninja of close year. pretty much identical. heres the link for my post.

EDIT: The video you posted was not by any means bad, seemed good to me. What was wrong to you Madman?

Thanks for the link, I just happened to stumble upon this today and didn't remember seeing anything this helpful when I was looking (months ago). As for Madmann... My internet diagnosis is "Diarrhea of the Mouth" with "Excessive Emoticon Disorder", and a large helping of "Grammaritis".

... I don't really know if it's curable or not.

LOL I meant why did he dislike the video. I liked it, it explained the mechanics of how a carb actually works, which is helpful. My video is more in depth for process of cleaning and taking it apart, for a bike very similar to ours.

whats wrong with me? IM MADD!!!:fool::rotf::rotf: THAT VIDEO SUCKED!!:laughing7:

In all seriousness what was wrong with the video? Was it factually incorrect? I am a noob and wouldn't know if it was wrong so I yield to those who have more experience than myself, just wondering if there was a technical/legitimate reason for the hating. :)

I stole this from another forum talking about the same video.

"I'd also like to point out this video is about a VM style or "round slide" carburetor. Most street bikes, even all the way back to the '70s, use CV or "constant velocity" carburetors which operates on the same principles but in a different manner. A VM carb actuates the needle jet by throttle pull as demonstrated in the video, whereas a CV carb actuates the needle jet by vacuum, usually utilizing a rubber diaphragm. It rises and falls based on vacuum generated by the engine. Vacuum increases with RPM. Don't go blowing the carb with compressed air or carb cleaner before removing the rubber diaphragm, be aware before you tackle your own carbs"

That may have been the problem he was "laughing" at. However, I wish he would have just corrected the obviously new people instead of being unhelpful. BUT. Since he says he didn't watch the video, I might be giving him too much credit.

Also, since I'm on my phone and can't edit my posts, I forgot another thing. The choke on ours isn't actually a "choke". Instead of restricting the air flow by way of a choke plate to make the mixture richer, it introduces more gas via another jet.

So if you're bike dies with the choke it may not be because of that idle screw or the choke plate, it may just have a clogged jet.

I figured as much, as I have had my carbs apart for cleaning recently, and noticed that difference. Thanks for clearing that up! What year is your 600?
