Going rate for a complete parts bike?

I wish it were a little closer. I also hate having to figure out "previous owners" attempts at "fixing" something, like the missing starter. That bugs me. It still should be resurrected if at all possible, hope somebody here gets it!

I do know the people who looked at the bike, friends of the ex - wife. I don't think they tried to "fix" the bike so much as tried to diagnose the problem. I understand the hesitation though. You guys are more than welcome to contact Bob directly to get his opinion, lest anyone think I'm they're being led up the garden path....

Well, after discussing with Markus, I think I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on this bike. Worse case scenario, I end up with 2 horn covers I really need, and a good parts bike! I can't tell you how "naked" I feel without a parts bike sitting in the corner of the garage, anybody whose ever had one will tell you how invaluable it is to have it! Now, my plan is to try and get it running and put it back on the road, but if it's got a serious motor issue, well, I will make sure it becomes a good donor for other ZL1000's down the line! Jon, I have sent you a PM to work out the details! :headbang:

Congrats! Be sure to tell us what you discover with the motor and Good Luck!!

Okay, bike is sold as of today. If anything changes, I'll post up here. Thanks to everyone involved!

old Tex...got the fever again....I'll come down and help you build that 4 car garage your going to need, now that you have a steady paycheck!:rotf:

I can see in your future that you'll need a basket....full of your keys and you just go up and grab a set and that's the bike you drive that day!:rotf:

Well, hopefully in the spring when we buy a house, it will ALREADY have a big garage and maybe a barn or an out building. I'm not going to get pigeon-holed into something with a small garage ever again! I left Dallas with two bikes and once I get this one, I'll be back up to 7, but that's going to be my limit until next spring, unless something just STUPIDLY cheap pops up close! I have 5 bikes in a one car garage, with alot of my parts and tools right now, and my red ZL900 is down at my father-in-laws house in Waynesburg. Now, he has plenty of room and wouldn't mind it if I brought a couple more bikes down there, but I don't wanna play that card unless I really have to. It's nice having a bike down there to ride when we visit though, and I hardly put any miles on that red one anyway, so it's a good fit down there. I'm gonna start looking for a house around March, can't wait to get out of this apartment, it's just too darn small. I haven't lived in an apartment in 20 years, I forgot how much is sucks!!!

Yea, you can eat, watch tv, potty and sleep... and you can see all of those rooms at the same time!

I was looking at a vmax on craiglist..here it is....what you think?

I would love to have a collection....I should have kept my 600....but you can't find parts for those things...there like hens teeth...that's one of the reasons I sold it...but I'm into bigger bikes now anyway.

Do you have an orange one? Is it in one of your pics? I'm hesitant to buy an early Vmax, (any Vmax) as I've hear about 2nd gear issue.

No, I sold the orange one before I left. Well if you're worried about 2nd gear, THIS IS THE BIKE FOR YOU! I have paperwork to verify the 2nd gear was completely redone at a dealership in Evansville, Indiana a couple years ago, and the bike's only got about 2K miles on the rebuild. It's GOOD TO GO! The parts alone were over a grand, he probably had over 2K into it with the labor, but the labor price wasn't on the receipt, just the parts. I don't have any pics of it right now, because I was planning on waiting until spring to sell it. Send me a PM if you are serious about owning one, it's a good one!

Welcome...I'm almost 100 percent Irish! The forum is based on the type of inquiry you have: whether it be technical, general, parts, bikes for sale, tech sections modification sections...etc...just click on "HOME" and you'll see all the departments in which to post or browse for information. If you have a specific question, you click "submit new thread" at the top of the department that closely matches your inquiry and title it and then explain your issue...pics are extremely helpful and there's information on how to upload as well. If you want to comment on a particular post within a thread, you click "reply with quote". What you did this evening was hijack a thread. So, with the information that I shouted out to you, it should get you started.

BTW...use the SEARCH feature...can't stress this enough, as this forum probably has 100,000 pages of information concerning your question....I used to post ALOT of questions, only to find them if I had used the search feature. It's invaluable.

Welcome again and once you have your sled running, you'll not want to get off of it.

Well, the ZL1000 is safe and sound in it's new home here in Lexington! My thanks to GoldKraul for bringing it down and to Jon for selling it to me at a fair price. The bike has some potentional, I've got a new battery charging and tomorrow I'm going to do some initial troubleshooting and see what I can see. Worse case scenario, I have A TON of nice parts for my other ZL1000 that is a little rough around the edges. When and if I decide to part it out, I will post everything up here before taking it to eBay, that's for sure! Can't wait to start tearing into her tomorrow!

I cleverly hid them behind a pair of old sweat socks :laughing3:
