I have a gauge cluster from a GPZ on my ZL. I dont like it, it makes it look dodgy. I can not find a Speedo, Tach and centre piece anywhere.

My question is: Can I use a nice looking gauge assembly from another bike. Like an EL or Vulcan?

Are these gauges easily attached or will they need to be retrofitted?

Will they be accurate or read the wrong speeds and revs?

What year models can i harvest these parts from?

I looked at these two threads and it kind of dealt with my question but these were not zl1000 specific or dealt in any model specifics.

Any advice on this topic would be helpful but I am mostly after specifics and testimonials of people who have tried this, especially with the Zl1000 more then the smaller bikes.

Cheers

You'd be way ahead to be patient and get the right parts for the bike. I actually have the center section, and have had MANY tachs and speedos over the years, but they don't last long, big demand for them in good condition. The ZL900 tach and speedo are interchangable, will fit right into the factory connections, they are not "exactly" the same, the numbers on the face of the speedo are a little different, but they will look and function fine, 99% of people looking at the bike would not know they are from a ZL900, and since there were many more ZL900's made, there are many more to be found. There are no other bikes that share the center section of the gauge cluster, but I think maybe the ZL600 also has a similar speedo/tach setup, not sure on that one. Your best bet is to just keep an eye peeled here, post a wanted ad, and keep a close eye out on eBay. The bike deserves to be put back to stock form, it will also greatly enhance the retail value, if you ever decide to sell it!

I know I have a center section and some tachs and spedos down stairs. I will take a look at what I have and let you know later today what is all there.
