Hey guys, this is my first post on here other than joining the registry. I have been working on my ZL for most of the winter, and am getting closer to completion. I am trying to find out which wire is the signal for the tach. I am installing a shift light and cant seem to find a decent wiring diagram for the tach plug in the headlight bucket. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

From what I see on the wiring diagram there are 3 wires for the tach - black/yellow, brown and black. The black wire is the one that runs to the coils and ignitor - the other 2 wires run everywhere - idiot lights and other cocmponents on the bike. Someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's the black wire. Later.

Did you download the service manual and look? I think he is right, I recall those colors and the black/yellow rings a bell.
Welcome Aboard!

That sounds about right. If I remember from working with the turn signals, that the black/yellow is the common ground. Brown I would assume would be your positive reference signal and the black would be signaling. Thanks again guys. I'm glad I found this site. Hope to have this bike up and running soon. Still have to get the tank cleaned and sealed, and the rest of my parts to get here. I'll post some pics of my 1800 mile barn find when she is done. Thanks Again!
