???what would be the widest tire (front, rear) that stock rims on a '96 zl 600 will accept?
From my experience if you get to wide of a tire once aired up the tires are no wider than the stock sizes. For instance I put a 120 on my ZL stock 18 inch rim & it is still only as wide as the stock 100 18. The tread rides further up the side walls causing cupping. You may be alright going up a size on the rear.
Cupping is when the tire wears unevenly/chopping or you can say dipping. Another description would be that the tire will get low spots in the tread wearing uneven. I'd post a pic of my front tire but the dipping as of now is not noticeable in the pic. The cupping on my front tire started at around the 8,000 mile mark. Also depending on the stile of tread pattern & or tire compound dictates how severe/soon the cupping becomes/happens. Hope this helps.
