bike started runnin crappy...pulled plugs and noticed #1 is wet and has very weak spark...did okloahoma heat test on pipes (lick finger and touch pipe) and #1 is cold...2-4 working ok......is it possible for the coil to go bad on one side???....any other places I should look???....jus curious before I go out and by new coils and wires....any input is greatly appreciated!!

When you say that #1 is very wet, do you mean the end of the plug, as in the bit that sparks, or do you mean the rest of the plug, the section that is exposed in the plug well when you pull the boot off, but before you take the plug out?

The only reason I ask is that I get this almost every time that my bike has been standing outside in the rain, because the camchain is on the left and creates a nice well right next to the #1 plug boot. When this happens I just pop the boot off and use some rags/tissues to soak out as much water as I can from around the plug. Then I put the boot back on the plug, but I make sure that I pull the seal up the boot so that there is a gap between the seal and the top of the engine. Then I start the bike, #1 usually starts firing then, but not always smoothly, and the gap that I leave from pulling the seal up allows any moisture left in the plug well to evaporate and escape. Then once I finish my ride and the engine has had a chance to cool, I slide the seal back down the plug boot again.

Not sure if that'll help or not. Knowing my luck I've probably just wasted a couple of minutes typing that :p

Just about anything is possible, but more probable is a bad plug wire assembly. Pull the wire from the coil and measure the resistance end-to-end, if I remember right should be between 5-6K. If you don't have an ohmmeter, take apart, trim 1/4 in off each end, take the resistor out of the cap and make sure there isn't any corrosion on it, its spring or the cap itself; put back together and see what happens.

yea i've experianced the ol water in the well issue...........i meant wet on the end ......as in unbrunt fuel....thanks for your input i really do appreciate!!

golddrakul - I will give that shot to!! It seemed aweful odd that half a coil could go?....this is a wasted spark system right??

BTW the "oklahoma heat test" is exactly like the "polish test" with the addition of finger licking before finger placement on pipe....... I highly reccomend the Oklahoma way.....just an FYI
