I replaced some aftermarket grips that the PO (previous owner) had put on my 1986 ZL600. They were foam and had chromed end caps and they were nearing the end of their life. Found some NOS (new old stock) grips for about $35 and snatched them up. Turns out some of those problems I'd been having with acceleration and idling didn't have anything to do with my carbs after all! It used to climb the RPMs when I would idle after a decently long ride, or at other times, die on me. Plus the acceleration always seemed to be a bit... mushy. With the NOS grips on there it's nice and quick off the line and the idling RPMs are steady!

I just wanted to put some info out there to some of the other members that it may not be the problems you think if you're having idling/acceleration troubles. It could be as simple as ****ty grips!

Happy trails.

I tried a set of those foam grips....once......but not for long....

People just don't consider how some cheesy aftermarket part can affect the bike. Crappy grips will "hang-up" and cause slow "decel" or not give complete rotation for w-o throttle due to a larger diameter .
