Hey guys, i have toured the site and still can't find a simple solution. My speedo has a new cable but flopps around like a fish and makes all kinds of embarrassing noise. Is there a simple speedo replacement? One i can just plug the cable into and bolt it on? And if digital replacement is the way to go, how complicated is it to install on the zl1000?

Was the new cable well-greased, and is the end at the speedo seated completely? The ones I've seen have a square inner cable, or at least the end is square, and it's possible it's not completely lined up right with the square socket in the speedo.

The cable was replaced by a bike mechanic so i trust that he did grease and line it up correctly. This sounds like a cimmon problem that is fixed by cutting into the speedo and greasing all moving parts. I can do that but would rather just replace it with a new speedo.

I can understand not wanting to dive into the inside of your speedo, but unless you just really want a new one, the greasing and seating are easy enough to check by disconnecting the cable at the speedo end.

Thanks, ya i guess i might as well take it off and maybe try putting oil in the plug and leaving it upside down over night, maybe if im lucky that will fix it. By the way just got my zl today and i love it! What a kick ass bike!

Update- i oiled the speedo in the hole where the cable goes in and let it sit upside down over night. Reassembled then test drove and its fixed! At least for now, no more noise and getting accurate speed reading. Thanks again
