Hello guys, my new zl1000 is great but the fuel indicator is not working. on removing my tank I see a box at the bottom that has an electrical connector, and what looks like a vacuum port that is not connected to anything. where does this vacuum port connect to? I am hoping i can buy a hose and connect it to wherever it goes and I will have a gas level indicator as well. thank you! could not find the answer anywhere else.

Do you have the manuals? Download for free on this site. Should show the vaccum routing. Might depend on if it's a california model also - they had extra evap junk on them. Also check the link bleow, might help with disassembly if you need to go that far. The port is just for venting I believe so it won't help with making the guage work. It's probably the sending unit itself - check fuses, look for corrosion on electrics, etc, and all the simple stuff first of course. Good luck. Later.

The fuel gauge connector is a 2-pin connector, located where the seat and tank meet. Should be able to see it on top of the frame with the seat removed.

No vacuum involved with the fuel gauge.

Yes thank you, i found and inspected the connector and it looks fine. Sad to hear it won't be an easy fix. Another possibility, the previous owner coated the inside of the gas tank. Would this ruin the float thereby making it read empty?

Hard to tell if the coating has affected the guage - depends on how the previous owner went about it - hopefully the sending unit was removed before the tank was coated. Shine a flashlight down into the tank to the left (if sitting on the bike) and maybe try using one of those tiny telescopic mirrors and maybe you can see the condition of the float and arm and sending unit without removal. Later.
