hey guys, anyone ever put clubman bars on their zl1? I love the look of low bars but am wondering if anyone knows what measurements I would need to make it not hit my tank.. also drag bars look really cool too..

The 1000 has a fat tank. Low bars are going to hit the tank at full lock, unless you modify the steering stops.

Also, i dont know how to mod steering stops (hides face) ha, is it still a comfy ride, like enough room to steer well?
I put custom bars on my last bike, fabricated custom risers and made it work, but have not messed with steering stops before

Wuputt used 900 bars on his, I don't know if his hits the tank or if he used risers or what. The drag bars like Chris (green bike) uses requires the stop to be modified by adding material to it. Then you need a parking lot to turn around in :rotf: Actually it isn't that bad but it will not do a good U-Turn

OHH SO True !!! :laughing7:

actually the bike does handle well while riding, but like Mark mentioned, U-turns & moving it around while not riding can be a bit of a challenge in tight spaces.

steering stops are easy to modify ! look at your bottom tripple tree clamp on front forks, you will see 2 tabs that raise up from clamp. simply drill a small hole in each one, & put a nut/bolt through it.

Awesome, thanks! Next question.. Anyone know the measurement of the stock 900 bars? Maybe i can ebay up a similar size with a slightly higher rise, then install without risers. Bwha ha ha the idea wheels are turning..

Btw chris your bike is siiick. I love the low bars.

Thanks Bro !!! if you hear me or anyone mention the name " Eleanor " that is the name i call that ZL. only one of my ZL's (900's) has stock handlebars on it. i would love to help you out with measurements, but that one is currently not home rite now.

No worries, maybe someone will know the measurements. If i can find out then i can buy whatever bars for cheap rather than "stock 900" bars with a 40 dollar mark up. Still think clubmans would look amazing if they could ever fit.

i agree with you. clubman bars would look cool ! i've only seen 1 ZL with clubman bars on it, from someone overseas, but they are not put on bike rite ! this person put them on like regular handlebars, & they look like mini- apehangers

When drilling the hole, consider making it the correct size for a tap; then you can screw a bolt into it with a locknut on it and easily adjust the stopping point.

That must have been seriously funny....

Wuputt had 900 bars on his 1K but they did hit. he showed me the spots on the tank. He also had his bars rolled way forward. His barely hit but they did. I originally put 900 bars on my 1K but they were not OEM and they did fit with no hit. They were maybe 1/8" away but did clear. When I wrecked my bike in 2010 they got bent and Markus found me a pair of OEM 900 bars. I could not get them to work without hitting so I bought risers. I like the risers that Kawboy has as they are simple and effective. The OEM 900 bars hit but barely and his risers get them up just enough to clear. I thik my non OEM bars had just a tad more rise than OEM...it was just a matter of hitting or clearing because I did not want them to touch the tank at all...

If you modify the stop as Chris did on Eleanor it will ride the same and the only issue is turnig it in a parking lot where you are basically pushing it with your feet to get out of or into a space. Keep in mind Eleanor is a 900 and those tanks are much smaller and you have more room.

I've got lower than stock bars on my 1k, idk what they came off of, were on the bike when i got it. They look like 900 bars but not sure. They don't hit and nothing has been done to the stops. I'll try and post a pic for ya tonight!
