Black factory paint code ???

simpleton as I am, I thought this would be easy.

I figured someone would look this up online or in a book somewhare and be able to say

ZL 900 black is kaw#**** and zl1k red is kaw#*** isnt that how the dealerships do it? paint code #s

Ah ok thanks for the clareification! Oh Furchin!!! LOL Is there a code as Bacchus was saying to make my looking for the right color easier?? Thanks all.

Thanks Bacchus need to get picks of them all LOL. Been contemplating selling the 2 KZ1100 Standards as I really dont have time to give them the love and attention they deserve. My original Idea was to have one of the standards with the vetter set up for doing a long 14 state (state parks tour) ride over a summer, but alas life happens while busy making plans and it doesnt look like I will be doing that anytime soon. And by the time I do get to do it I would hope to have the Spectre done up to do the trip so I really would like those bikes to go to someone that likes them enough to use them.
 
Kawasaki has never released the paint codes to the public. So us mere mortals have to resort to other means. I have used color rite for my '87 ZL1000 and 600 repaints (red) and am completely happy. Expensive, yes. I had a friend of mine who owns a body shop (25 years in business) try to shoot the color. The color that the computer came up with was not even close to the original. Probably 'cause Kawi used a 2 step paint job in these models.
 
It's galaxy silver with a red candy pearl coat and then a clear coat. Kaw Paint code#8675309

I have the 1985 kaw accessories catalog in my hands right now.
I will list the P/Ns for the paint in the chemical section of it.

luminous passion red qt. K61063-601

ebony qt. N/A

There are more colors but these are the blacks and reds.
 
does that book state which color goes with which zl and year???

This may help someone who needs information about the '87 red color. And Mark your little just kidding post is really not too far off. The actual steps for the two step painting of the '87 calls for a silver base and red overlay.

after reading my attachment I realized that the factory code numbers are not readable. They are 635 for the luminous red and 641 for the candy wine red.

I have the `85`86 and`88 cats.
The only listing for the 1K is in ebony.
`85`86 ZL9 ebony,`86 ZL9 luminous red K61063-635

`87 ZL10 ebony

The ZXs and ZL6s are also listed.
If you know which ZL6 has the same red as the 1K
I can match it up.

Those are the last digits of the P/N for the paint.

So we can still buy ZL900 paint from mama Kaw?
 
Sure, for $25 I'm in. Go with a quart of the luminous red for an 1985 ZL900, can send PayPal in advance if you'd like.

$25 for paint sound like an incredable deal !!!

I am after the 1985 red for a zl900.

I talked to my paint shop customer earlier in the week and was told that parts would not be ready until friday. so we'll see how they turned out here shortly.

If someone out there has a stock and original zl9 I would like to have a picture of the gas tank so that I can get the placement of the factory decals perfectly placed.
