1. Guest,
We need good tech writers that are willing to help out here at ZL-OA. If you like taking photos of jobs as you perform the steps on your repairs, have historical ads/documents from old magazines, or any else you think belongs in the Technical Library than you might be able to help. Send a private message to Furchin, Mudrunner88, Chris, Jarney, Wuputt, or Markus56 and we can lead you in the right direction to get started.

    Awesome pics, Zot!
I love the look of the inline 4 on a chop - makes it look like the bike is all engine!

I finally managed to do the engine swap and I now have a RUNNING bike! :) Of course, now this makes me realize I've got a zillion things to do. Gotta figure out the chain length and get a new chain. I'm thinking I'm going to need to build some kind of chain tensioner too. I'll have to address the front brake and also the front and rear axle hole, since the axles I'm using from the GS are bigger and don't fit in the frame.

But with a running engine, I can figure out if the foot clutch works and if my hand shifter is going to work as well. I'm feeling much better about this project, as I was starting to think I was in over my head, but now that it's actually running, at least I have the illusion of actually being able to pull this off!
    :)

Wow, has it been a YEAR already? I must be the slowest SOB on the planet. LOL

Here's how she looks now - got to shoot some paint! I had a can of GM/Saturn "Electric Lime" that I was going to use on the ZL (don't shoot me), but decided against it. I love the color, so I figured I'd use it on the Chop. I also mixed some Royal Gold pearl powder into the clear and I'm loving the results:

I'm headed out tonight to fab up a front brake bracket. I ordered up a 48" AN -3 brake line and just picked up the fittings to mate the HD brake MC to the 'zuki brake caliper.

Here's a pic of the template I made for mockup - the finished result will be a little more "fancy".

    Thanks Hellion!

I can't wait to post pics of the front brake bracket we fabbed up last night. My buddy's a sheet metal worker, so he took it all to his shop to do some detail cuts and clean stuff up. I pick it all up tonight and then I can get to welding it all together.

    :)

Wish I had me a place set up where I could do that stuff I miss fabricating stuff! I still have my Millermatic 250X, torch set, grinders and various other metal working stuff but I miss the bridgeport I used to have amongst some of the other things!!

Ahhh - a Bridgeport - that would be heaven!
Yeah, I'm slowly trying to build my tool set. After messing around last night, I realize I need alot more drill bits (and sharper ones too! LOL)

    Chris!
It's getting close now - just waiting for my brake line to come in so I can get her on the ground and see if she'll run down the street!

Yeah after my wreck in 2000 I had to sell off a bunch of my power and specialty tools to survive. Now I keep finding myself pining for my own shop and equipment. I have so many projects I need to work on and no where to do them!
    Yes brakes are important! LOL

I installed the new brake line, bled it out and the mofo stops now! :)
Put the new battery in, fired it up and rode the bike out of the garage for the first time ever! :)

I was just looking back and tomorrow will be a year since I brought home the chopper frame! Definitely took way longer than expected (and the build still isn't done), but I've learned a whole lot about how a motorcycle works.

    :)

Funny you should mention that, I just found this place on the web the other day:

    http://workingclasschoppers.com/

They're about 1/2 north of me in Trenton. I like their builds and, from what I can see, their way of thinking. Going to take a trip up on the ZL and check out their operation.

    :)

Got the brake bracket completed - keep in mind where the rest of the bracket is steel, it will be flat black powercoated.

The best part is that the Devil's Head is completely ornamental! It doesn't effect the operation of the front brake at all.

I can cut different shapes and mix and match to have different looks if/when i want!
