1. Guest,
We need good tech writers that are willing to help out here at ZL-OA. If you like taking photos of jobs as you perform the steps on your repairs, have historical ads/documents from old magazines, or any else you think belongs in the Technical Library than you might be able to help. Send a private message to Furchin, Mudrunner88, Chris, Jarney, Wuputt, or Markus56 and we can lead you in the right direction to get started.

Thanks, I will be getting the carbs pulled from the 1000 this week and get them to Rick then I will need the water pump rebuilt. I really only need a seal I believe as it’s leaking oil. The water pump itself I believe is fine as it’s cooling perfectly. It’s been 7 years since I pulled a water pump but I think they leak oil because of an o- ring? I thought I would just send it to you for rebuild while I had it out.

:hello: Man thoses black carbs look golden. :notworthy:. Rick: did you ever check into what a powder coat set up costs. Since carb parts are small you can buy an old oven to bake the parts in. Powder coating requires 400*F. Brad: Run the bike before doing anything. If it leaks only oil then the oil seal is bad. When you get the water pump out rotate the propeller with your fingers to check for tight spots. Also put the pump in a vice & see it has any play in it side to side & in & out.

Got it, i will pull pump as soon as carbs are back in the 900 and all is running good. I can’t have oil leaking from a zl 900 that only has 6000 miles on it so it’s definitely next in the list.

Can’t wait to hear these carbs come to life again. It’s amazing how close Rick has these balanced straight off his workbench. Anytime I’ve put the vacuum gage on a rebuild of his, I barely have to touch them to balance.... if any.

:hello: After Rick done my ZL 10 carbs my bike runs better than it ever has so I didn't even bother syning them. He also did the carb for my 2002 Yamaha YFM 350 XP Warrior Sport Quad & it has never run this good since buying it in 2004.

:hello: Do you all remember back when lead was still in our fuel. :laughing7:. :notworthy:. You was able to go 2 years with old fuel before it went bad. Also the carbs never turned green inside.

Any of you have non ethanol gas around you? I found a station locally that has it for a decent price. I’m going to try and burn nothing but.

Seeing that these bikes have had zero miles in 4 years, Maybe that will be my bike exercise to keep the carbs clean! I’ll just go back and forth to the ethanol station.

I use non-ethanol fuel in both of my bikes; but at each fill up I pour 2 oz of TC-W3 outboard motor oil to help coat the inside of the fuel tanks and prevent the jets in the carbs from gumming up.

I wished I did have a non ethanol station close......that's all I'd run. PRfixer, I was wondering the same thing.

No problems at all. And I keep the fuel tanks full during the winter months which are in storage.

:hello: I use K 100 fuel treatment & stabilizer. It's pricy at $26 for one 32 oz. bottle but it lasts me about 4 years or so. IMG_6923.JPG
