1. Guest,
We need good tech writers that are willing to help out here at ZL-OA. If you like taking photos of jobs as you perform the steps on your repairs, have historical ads/documents from old magazines, or any else you think belongs in the Technical Library than you might be able to help. Send a private message to Furchin, Mudrunner88, Chris, Jarney, Wuputt, or Markus56 and we can lead you in the right direction to get started.

How many ZL 900s were built in 85 and 86? I can't find the numbers anywhere.

It's anyone guess 'cause Mama Kaw would never disclose the total numbers produced.

Furchin is correct and those that tell you they got the numbers from Kawasaki are full of crap!

You can probably fish through the registry and look for the high VIN to get an idea. They are getting more rare by the year.

Actually, you are spot on in my opinion only... the second year ZL900 service manuals state on the back Vin #s 2301- and #s 4701-
This tells me that Kaw made 7000 the first year. The ZL1000 I have no idea how many US models they produced but I believe the Aussie models got 1400 built in 1987, any Aussie models over the 1401 Vin # were built in 1988. That is only speculation though on my part!
If you disagree I love to debate!
